One of the benefits of Gab was anonymity. Being able to log in through the VPN helped with that. They have eliminated that possibility, and your IP address is now visible to the world and Gab when you log in (unless you pay their $100 per year fee). Their excuse is protecting the community from foreign subversives, third-world scammers, and other bad actors. Interesting that I have not encountered this with any other websites.
Uh huh.
Someone straightened Andrew Torba’s tie, and now they will have, and thus be able to provide to our own imperial federal government and anyone else who demands access (or hacks their servers) the IP address of everyone who posts on Gab.
It was great while it lasted. Under NO circumstances would I ever log into a social media site or any other website without the protection of a good, no-log VPN.
I haven’t been able to find any other threads discussing this, I too refuse to use Gab without protections in place. Was on Gab since 2017 and have watched Torba struggle and win in most cases but also watched him slip over the edge over the past 2 years. Ah well: It was fun while it lasted.
It appears that I will no longer use Gab.
