China, Solar Inverters and Space Weather
How China can leverage a solar storm to destroy the U.S. Grid
Recent reports indicate that undisclosed communication devices have been found in the inverters of Chinese-made solar panels installed in the US. These devices raise concerns about potential remote control of these systems by China, which could pose a threat to the security and stability of the US power grid. The devices were discovered during security inspections of equipment connected to power grids, and their presence was not disclosed in the product documentation.
Evidently removing these devices from the inverters is problematic, and securing this part of our grid would involve replacing these inverters with non-Chinese made devices. One of the issues of course is that China makes nearly all of our electronics now. This happened because our Congress thought it was more important to support their lobbyists rather than represent the American people. Additionally, the Green New Scam has led to the closing and dismantling of many of our current power supply stations, primarily coal-powered, in favor of solar power systems. Again, nearly every component of these built by China.
Here’s the issue. It would be an act of war for China to overtly shut down our power grid, as doing so would cripple the United States economically, militarily and socially. However, there are a couple of ways they could do this and maintain plausible deniability, and thus cripple our nation while avoiding certain destruction from our significantly more powerful military.
First of all, our grid is already at it’s breaking point. Where we used to have approximately 20% reserve power in our system at all times, thus providing for emergencies, power plant shutdowns, fuel-delivery issues and exceedingly hot or cold weather, we are now closer to 13% reserve power, despite what the feel-good propagandists declare. From the video above, it is suggested that for every 1% drop in our reserve, at this point, the risk of blackouts, brownouts and other failures goes up seven-fold. If we were to have a very hot summer, and the grid was taxed to it’s maximum, it would not be difficult to shut down part of the system by an external force (China) and cause widespread long-term issues.
Second, and in this author’s opinion, a far great risk is this. The Earth’s magnetic field is collapsing. Where it was down about 10% from it’s normal strength in 2004, it is now down by nearly 30%, and perhaps more. This is evident even to someone who does not normally follow these events simply because of the marked increase in aurora visible at mid-latitudes, even when there has been nearly no, or just modest solar activity. The sun creates flares, CME’s (Coronal Mass Ejections) and filament releases that all impact our magnetosphere. The weaker that becomes, the greater the impact. On 11-12 May of 2024, the sun had 4 strong, but not overwhelming x-class solar flares. This led to spectacular aurora that were visible as far south as Cuba and Central America, and widespread power grid and communications outages. This is not normal. Power companies monitor NOAA Space Weather for these events, and re-route the loads when the danger of Geo-magnetically Induced Currents (GICs) is high.
The risk is this. As our magnetic field weakens and our power consumption on a power grid that is seeing higher and higher demands increases, while deteriorating due to its age, coupled with our inability to replace major transformers if they fail, provides an adversary the opportunity to sabotage our grid during such a solar storm. A large Coronal Mass Ejection (CME) can cause significant overloads in the electrical grid by generating induced currents that can exceed 100 amperes, which can damage transformers, relays, and other electrical components connected to the grid. We generally have one to two days notice of an incoming CME from a powerful solar flare, and our adversaries know this and monitor these data constantly. China, or another enemy, using the embedded communications devices we have discovered in our grid-tied solar generation systems might disable the ability of utility operators to reroute power and protect vital systems, potentially causing a power overload that could damage or even destroy one or more of the nations Large Power Transformers (LPTs). We have no replacements for these, and it could take two or more years to produce a single unit. This is in addition to the smaller-scale damage to local systems. Overloaded electrical wires can cause fires, damage electronic equipment, and destroy computers and communications.
Our government has been grossly negligent in preparing for grid issues that can be caused by natural phenomenon, such as solar EMPs, or nuclear EMPs caused by an attack, and even sabotage as described above. This author is not certain if it’s because of an inability to understand the risk by our elected representatives (after all, we have one congressman who thinks Guam will capsize if we increase the size of our marine base there) or if they simply don’t care, or don’t believe the risk exists. I suspect it’s a combination of all three, and the fallout will be far greater than even that by a deliberately released bioweapon, followed by a deliberately deadly “vaccine”, and the total bankruptcy of our nation by corrupt officials who cannot stop spending money that hasn’t been earned yet by people who haven’t been born yet.
I do not know how to encourage anyone to listen. Others have tried, and it has fallen, and continues to fall on deaf ears. The only real thing anyone who is concerned about this is to prepare for it, and pray it never happens. This is why this author is a strong advocate for decentralized systems, including decentralized power generation and data systems.
